CAGD 230 - Western Scene Post 2

Western Scene Post 2 For the second sprint in the Western Scene that I am working on, I re-evaluated the approach that I was taking to building my Blacksmith shop. First, I decided to move to an interior setting to help further push the design that I was trying to portray. To do this, I build a new walled room, and am keeping one of the sides tall and blocky, as many of these older styled buildings did keep room for a large sign, and lighting on the outside. This will also allow me to keep a large entryway, with swinging doors much like a more modern barn has. This will allow me to keep a contrast between the brighter outside lighting, and the lighting from the forge illuminating the darker inside. Reference image for front I got a few more assets ready for UV's so that I can move onto texturing this week. I am really happy with the way that my old fashioned wooden wheel turned out with a metal ring on the outside, though the metal will not show a difference until the texturing pro...

CAGD 230 - Western Scene Post 1

Western Scene Post 1      The goal of the Western Scene project is have students choose a building/theme of either a general store, blacksmith, or saloon. We are to model a larger scale 3D project that fits within the "old west." For my project, I went with modeling a blacksmith shop scene.  Reference Image          To begin, I started modeling the outside of the shop, where the forge is located. This week, I focused on getting the outside blocked out using primitives, and slowly adding assets. This includes the base and middle of the soon to be shop. Once I have the outside finished, I plan to start adding the inside necessities, such as tools and maybe weapons. I also want to add a weapon rack, which I expect to take a little longer due to the complicated shape.  Because I already have an anvil and a barrel to work with, I first made the work table. After I had made that, I continued on to UV the table before moving on to making...

CAGD 230 - Polish Micro Scene

Polish Micro Scene      For the Polish Scene, we were given the task of creating two new items to fit within the world that we began to create with our first Primitive Scene assignment. In my case, I went with an old blacksmith shop. We were to use the modeling techniques that we have learned up to this point while working on our previous assets. For my two new additions to the scene, I created an anvil and a smithy hammer. I wanted these tools to look worn down and used, and using the dirt and rust generators overtop the rough looking iron materials really helped me bring the look I wanted to these objects.      Some of the main issues that arose while working on this project was due to hardware limitations. During the process of creating the three objects in the Prop-Trio assignment, the graphics card in my PC died. Thankfully, I was able to get a replacement within a couple weeks. This led to me needing to put in some extra time during the week lead...
